I for one have grown sick of the comments about how Dom isn't this or that and how the old joke goes about him not ever playing on a record. If he wanted to play with a group,I would think that he wouldn't have any trouble finding a gig. That's not his bag! He is perfectly happy doing clinics and being a teacher and motivator!

He has more chops than a lamb and it pisses me off to hear guys criticize people like Dom and Steve Michaud and counteless other drummers when the people who are doing the criticizing have done nothing more than play in their living room their entire life!

I don't think Dom needs any defense!, he's carreer is going pretty well .

As with any player, some guys like him and others dont.

I'm not a big fan but I've been in a couple of his clinics and had a great time, had some good laughs, and learn a few things.

I don't think Jim Chapin ever recorded with real musicians, and I don't think many people care about that. His contribution to drumming and music is a standard method, and estabishes him as an icon in drumming.

I don't know if Dom's work will acheive the same level of success that Chapin's has, but he's an excellent musician, and he's an effective and enthusiastic educator and ambassador of drums.

PS: It's "defense."

HOOO boy.

This has the potential to become like the Frank B, big band [readg vs 'by ear'], & can VC play 'real' jazz threads...HO HUM.

Dom, Frank, & of COURSE Chapin have contributed in their own way, whether perceived large or small by any given individual. Their playg may not be to everyone's liking, but they HAVE contributed [ESP Jim via his standard book].

We've beaten this one to death too, but Mark is defending DF's right to do what he does. Not everyone has to like it, but knocking it would be a little small.

But who lately in here has been bagging on DF [since that God-awful drawn-out thread]? It's like ya came outta L field w that one ["random"]...?

Now let's not have a zillion peeps come in here & deluge the forum ONCE AGAIN debating their opinions about whether they like him or not. Been there; done that; BORRRRring.

Some peeps are at some level to appreciate Dom, others, maybe not. There are other ways to apprec something than merely it's 'surface value' AW...

Settled then.

Of course, there can be such & even worse absurdities leveled at any subject matter, such as there's also peeps that bag on guys like Gadd, VC, Virg, Chambers, or Weck, etc [WTF?!]...some may be of the personal opinion that they don't partic care for guys such as these' playing, for whatever reason they may have [I for one can't see that], which is OK...but to bag on them would be borderline stoopidity...once again,

Pedro comes in here & helps defend DF, & THIS coming from a guy [PG] who I feel can play RINGS around...well, never mind. THIS should tell us something.

Guess this ol' world is just bound to be cursed with some peeps just will never see the Big Picture... /;c)

I bow out w an age old wise adage:

"Big people talk about ideas.
Mediocre people talk about 'things.'
Small people talk about other people."

Insulting others is not the way to go.
[Unless it's an 80's glam or eMpTyV poser in a comical-humor thread!!!] J/K /;-p

Whoops!!

Wrong thread!!

Dom is cool. Just a little weird to my ears. He kinda reminds me of the Tony Robbins of drumming. I've seen some cool on-line lessons he's done, great tips and stuff. But as far as ensamble playing.... I'm not a really big fan of his.

It's all cool.
